Enjoy Delicious Coffee at Regency Nursing Centers!

Good morning.

Those who know me know that two of my favorite addictions (after my addiction to our magnificent Regency Nursing Centers), is my passion for running (ok, I admit, it has become an addiction) and my addiction to coffee.

I’ll lace up and leave the house on a given morning, afternoon, or evening and run anywhere from 5 to 16 miles over a few hours as I pass through several cities along the way.

I will also typically drink 3 (sometimes 4) large cups of coffee to get me through the day.

A coffee addiction doesn’t come cheaply. Coffee is expensive and the cumulative costs over a month (when you’re addicted as I am) can be quite staggering.

Regency Nursing Centers offers delicious coffee, cookies and condiments in all of our magnificent lobbies and common areas. This doesn’t go unnoticed by our grateful families and visitors, who might be similarly addicted to fine coffee as I am.

Speaking of coffee, even if you’re not among the 63 percent of Americans who drink coffee every day, caffeine is hard to avoid. It’s all over your corner store, from energy drinks to colas and bottles of iced tea to cans of Starbucks (or, as I call it, “4-bucks”) “Refreshers.”

But despite its pervasiveness, we still understand little about the stuff. It doesn’t help that the beverage industry hopes to keep it that way; for instance, though energy drink sales have skyrocketed in recent years, their manufacturers aren’t required to label how much caffeine their products contain. Meanwhile, emergency room visits related to energy drink use increased more than tenfold between 2005 to 2009.

In his new book, Caffeinated: How Our Daily Habit Helps Us, Hurts, and Hooks Us, out March 13, journalist Murray Carpenter takes on this mysterious substance. He toured Colombian coffee fields, Chinese tea lounges, and factories pumping out synthetic caffeine for soft drinks, interviewing FDA regulators, industry spokesmen, neuroscientists, and cacao cultivators.

Regency Nursing Gift Baskets!

Everyone associated with Regency Nursing Centers, loves our resident and patient gifts and goodies.

We are generous with our patients upon admission and provide them with magnificent gift baskets designed by our Recreation Directors. We are also generous with our discharged patients to provide them with Regency trinkets for them to remember their excellent experience in one of our Post-Acute Rehab Centers.

When it comes to gifts, Regency competes with the likes of Google.

Google invests huge sums of money into the gifts they provide to their vendors, contributors, employees and advertisers.

Our very own social worker, Meghan, has a loved one who works at Google and I often joke with her about the gadgets and gizmos they have flying around in their offices and suites.

My buddy just received this gift from Google (he is an SEO expert):

Using Fake Rappers to Promote Health Insurance?!

Just when you thought absurdity met boundaries, blogosphere this week is buzzing about the new ads promoting health insurance for Washington state’s young people.

The question people are asking is whether the ads are quirky, hip and funny, or insulting and offensive?

Michael Marchand says it doesn’t matter.

“I don’t care if people like or hate what I’m doing, so long as they get the URL right,” said Marchand, director of communications for the Washington Healthplanfinder, the website where people can buy subsidized health insurance plans.

The ads, launched in late February, feature two fictitious rappers who interview real residents about their success enrolling in health plans through the state’s exchange. The duo are sort of a caricature of rap artists. One is white and wears an absurdly thick gold chain, a coat with a white furry hood and white baseball cap. The other is African American, chubby and wears a green satin jacket and shades. Here is the You Tube Video.

In the week after the ads started running, there was a 10 percent increase in the number of young adults initiating and completing their enrollment in health insurance plans through the exchange, Marchand said.

I’ve seen Medicare enrollment ads and ads for AARP, I don’t believe this type of advertising would play well with seniors!!

A Kind Word For Families At Regency Park Nursing Center

Doesn't take more than 1 kind word to brighten someone's day!
Doesn’t take more than 1 kind word to brighten someone’s day!

Hello and Happy Presidents Day everyone!

Speaking of ‘hello,’ I was just out and about in the halls and greeted one of our visiting families with my traditional, hearty and robust ‘HELLO!’

You know what they told me?

They said that they actually look forward to my (gregarious) greeting whenever they comer here to visit!

How do you like that!

They said it is the small gestures of kindness displayed by you and the staff, that assures us that Mom is being well cared for.

Amazing what one kind word can accomplish.

Of course, others love to overanalyze and dissect the minutia of what we actually mean deep down in the nethermost regions of our subconscious, when we say ‘hello.’?!?

In fact, in this featured piece yesterday from the Atlantic, the entire article is devoted to determining what folks really mean when they say hello.

Really?!

At Regency Park On Super Bowl Sunday!

Good morning!

Here I am at beautiful Regency Park on this Super Bowl Sunday morning.

The building is quiet and peaceful as folks get ready to take on the day.
Families will arrive in a few hours to spend the day with their loved ones.
The building looks great, smells great and is ready for another beautiful Sunday of good cheer and festivities.

I LOVE THIS PLACE.

Across the street at the iconic Park east restaurant and bar, they are also getting ready to tackle what will no doubt be a busy day for them as well. Park East has been around for a very long time and has a well established clientele of dedicated customers from the surrounding areas.
In several hours, folks will begin streaming in to their establishment to watch the full day Super Bowl coverage on one of their many screens.

Iconic Regency Park Nursing Center.
Iconic Park East Restaurant.

I am struck by the irony of how different our two businesses are and yet we both act as place marks for each other (“Oh, so you guys are located right across from the Regency Park? Sure I know where you are! and visa versa).

I’m thrilled to be here on this day!

Your Garmin Loves Regency Nursing Centers!

In an ever expanding market of smart phones equipped with robust GPS capabilities, those old dinosaurs who are exclusively GPS, need to be innovative in order to stay relevant.

Garmin just conjured up a fanciful idea which was brought to light by our indefatigable Regency Gardens Admissions Director, Carmela Petrozza!
It seems, if you are stationed in close proximity to any Regency facility Statewide, Garmin would like to jump on our bandwagon of success and piggy back on our name brand recognition!

They are actually feeding the driver with a Regency ‘review’ tool and inviting the viewer to rate our facilities!!

I LOVE IT!!!

Of course I say this all tongue in cheek, but the salient point is Regency is the subliminal message of success espoused by all who seek to thrive off our business model via osmosis!

(I’ve got no idea what the heck I just wrote, but it sounds cool and hopefully, you get my point)

Take a look at what Carmela saw on her (completely archaic, irrelevant, passé, old school, obsolete and defunct Garmin GPS. Sorry Carmela ) GPS device:

Hey, do we get a commission?

Carmela,

Good stuff and thanks for bringing this to all of our attention at today’s marketing meeting at the GORGEOUS Regency Heritage 5 Star Hotel Caliber (and 5 star CMS rated), Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility in Somerset NJ!

It is always great to see all of you Regency superstars and to discuss our ever evolving initiatives for growth. Of course, Mr. Gross never ceases to amaze and inspire with his acumen and relentless pursuit of innovative concepts and strategies.

In quintessential Regency tradition, the food was great too.

Good thing I ran 10 miles this morning! (Did I ever tell you folks how boring it is to run on a treadmill? I’d rather watch paint dry, count sheep or otherwise lay dormant in a vegetative state as I contemplate the cosmos and other such deep philosophical and esoteric concepts.

Alas, I need to feed my addiction.

Ok, time to get back to feeding my other addiction: REGENCY NUSRING CENTERS!!!!

Superbowl Sunday at Regency!

“Not everybody can be famous but everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service.”
― Martin Luther King Jr. –

With the cacophony of excited talk surrounding the upcoming Superbowl (taking place in my back yard btw) there is much talk about ‘greatness!’
Greatness is the buzzword around the sports community. Whether the discussion is Peyton Manning and his spectacular offense, or the Seahwaks and their spectacular defense – the common denominator is their shared excellence and achievement of the pinnacle in sports milestones.

Greatness isn’t achieved overnight.

It requires laser sharp focus, utmost determination and an iron will to succeed. When there is talent in the mix, the results are even more robust and rewarding.

At Regency, we understand the concept quite well.

To our dear audience of families who religiously read this blog, I invite you to enjoy this upcoming Sunday with your loved one at one of our Regency facilities.
You well know, how much fun it will be to watch this event in the company of your beloved on our special BIG cutting edge flat screen TV’s installed for every patient!

Enjoy crisp digital imaging and great company in our oasis of warm and toasty rooms and common areas!

Remember to BYOP (bring your own popcorn)!
