Electronic Monitoring in Long Term Care Facilities

For the safety and wellbeing of our residents, we have installed high tech cameras throughout the common areas of our facilities.

However, electronic monitoring of a resident’s room itself, known as the “granny cam” law, was first passed in the State of Texas and was subsequently adopted by several other States.

A recently proposed bill in South Carolina is capturing national attention. I’m reading about it everywhere.

The South Carolina bill would require Long Term Care facilities to provide notice to current and prospective residents and/or their representatives that they will be electronically monitoring the residents room.

Furthermore, consent for such monitoring is to be given in advance.
