Adopt a Grandparent Day at Regency Park!

From the desk of Denise Piccininno – Regency Park Recreation Dept.

For the last few years we have had the pleasure of being entertained once a month by Darlene Quinones from the Faith Fellowship Ministry. Darlene sings inspirational songs and all religions are welcome to enjoy her performances. Occasionally, Darlene will invite a friend to sing with her at her performances, which residents enjoy very much.

This past Sunday, Darlene was joined by members of the Pioneer Girls. Pioneer Girls are all ages from a four year old to adults. The girls brought board games, Jenga, coloring pages as well as card games and shared some quality time with our residents, their adopted Grandparents for the afternoon. At first residents were a little surprised to see so many lovely ladies in the Dining Room. They were looking forward to Darlene’s beautiful voice! But, they soon were having a wonderful time with the girls playing games, talking and laughing together. Our own Flor C. of 1 East couldn’t resist hugging and kissing the youngest of the girls and her little brother. She spent the time coloring with the children and being “Abuela” (that’s Spanish for Grandma!!) to the cutes little volunteers ever! John M. of 3 West said, “I never thought it would be like this!”

After half an hour the Pioneer Girls joined Darlene for some beautiful hymns and songs. Residents and visiting family members clapped, sang, and yes they danced in the aisles!!

Thank you so much, Darlene and the members of the Pioneer Girls of the Faith Fellowship Ministry for bringing some much needed sunshine in on a Sunday afternoon!!
