Monmouth County To Honor Centenarians

From The Desk Of Marie Barnes, Regency Corporate Marketing and Public Relations Director.

In celebration of older Americans Month in May, Monmouth County honors and commemorates Monmouth County residents reaching the hallmark age of 100.

Regency Park Post-Acute, Rehab and Nursing Center is proud to announce they will host for those residents of Monmouth County who will be 100 years old in 2015, or older, a celebration event.  In partnership with Monmouth County Office on Aging, those “celebrity” residents are invited for a luncheon, music, gifts, a Monmouth County Proclamation for the Centenarians, and birthday cake.  Monmouth County Freeholder, John Curley will be in attendance and presenting the guests of honor with proclamations commemorating their centenarian status.

The event will take place on Monday, May 11 at Noon at Regency Park, 3325 Highway 35, Hazlet, New Jersey.

Marie Barnes, Corporate Marketing and Public Relations Director for Regency, stated, “Regency is proud to co-host this event with the Monmouth County Office on Aging.  It is a wonderful opportunity for the Centenarians and their families to gather and share their stories, which are truly amazing.”  Barnes added, “We are also proud to announce we are world record holders, and listed in the publication of the 2015 Anniversary Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Largest Gathering of Centenarians”.  Regency attempted the record in May, 2013, and in the first attempt beat the record held in London”.

If you know a Centenarian who would like to attend this great celebration of life, please send their name, address, phone number, and a copy of their birth certificate to the Monmouth County Office on Aging at 21 Main and Court Center, Freehold, NJ 07728.  For additional information, please call 732-431-7450.

Regency Park Nursing Administrator – A Lesson in Compassion

It is a privilege to be able to spotlight Mr. Joseph Bernfeld, who is the Administrator at Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hazlet NJ. In case you don’t know what he looks like, here is a photo of him with myself, my wife and children and our corporate administrator at a recent Regency event!

Pictured from left to right, is Corporate Administrator, Marty Bengio, with two of his daughters, Administrator, Joseph Bernfeld, along with Judah Gutwein, his wife and two of their children.

Since I work in the Admissions Office, I often get to tour our building with families from the community.

Invariably, we will bump into Joseph walking the halls greeting our residents and their families. When he isn’t busy looking after the successful running of our beautiful facility, he is meeting with families to offer advice and guidance.

The analogy I often use to describe the impact of his visible presence in our building is to compare and contrast with the fabled ‘Wizard of Oz’.

Here you have the all mighty and powerful Wizard who pulls all the strings, albeit in the background behind a curtain of secrecy and seclusion. We never see him or interact with him directly until the very end of the story.

This is similarly true for most nursing home administrators. You never see them or hear from them until there is a problem. They hide behind a veiled façade and there is no accountability.

Not so, with Joseph Bernfeld.

Our Administrator is a visible and reassuring presence in our building. He is available and accessible to anyone and for anything. This endearing quality is the reason he is so successful in the managing of our building, our staff, our residents and their families.

Regency Park in Hazlet; The “Red Brick Building on the Corner”

I’d like to share a cute anecdotal tidbit with you.

Invariably, I’ll be speaking to a local family about sending a loved one to our facility. I’ll mention our general location, including a few iconic restaurants and dealerships in the immediate area. I try to give them a sense of direction hoping they will recognize our stately and majestic building on highway 35, having undoubtedly driven by countless times.

Almost always, I will trigger a flash of inspiration and they will exclaim, “you mean that beautiful red brick building on the corner?”

My response:

(heck) “Yes, THAT beautiful red brick building on the corner!”
