Doggy Day Care (and Rehab?)

Dogcamp, the first pet-friendly nursing home, has opened in Binasco, Milan. It has been developed by the group Segesta and was created to meet the needs of people who are unwilling to abandon or to hand over their dog or cat. The pets are allowed to stay in their owner’s room, which is equipped with all the amenities necessary for the care of pets. The complex also features a green area with trees where the animals can roam freely, as well as a Dog Hotel, consisting of cottages that house the animals when the master is absent, and spaces for pet therapy.

11-Year-Old Sells Lemonade To Buy Wheelchairs For Others

Zack’s Shack is so much more than a lemonade and cookie stand. Inspired by a school-wide competition to raise money to purchase wheelchairs for people in developing countries, Zack decided he wanted to do more. Years later, Zack has raised enough money for more than 300 wheelchairs to give to others in need. Learn more about Zack and why “it feels so great to give” in this inspiring video.

See him on Facebook as well.

5 Star Rated at Regency Park In Hazlet, NJ!

It is with feelings of sadness and melancholy that I report on the untimely passing of our beloved Beta fish, “Deficiency Free.”

Deficiency free was a staple in the admissions office for many months and left an indelible impression upon all those who came to visit (especially when we met with families who brought along their young children). Many a delightful conversation ensued from watching Deficiency Free swim with unbridled enjoyment in his comfy habitat and especially after I told inquiring folks what we named him and why!

He will be sorely missed.

However, since our Regency Nursing Centers statewide continue to remain deficiency free year after year (an achievement we are incredibly proud of), it behooved me to seek out a new Beta ‘ombudsman’ to take up the torch and continue to provide for engaging conversation and good cheer.

In this vein and with great excitement, I welcomed our new electric blue beta fish into his new home early this morning!

He will be named “5 Star Rated” after our enviable State survey results!

We wish him great success in his new role!

5 Star Rated will soon be transferred from this temporary home into his spacious new digs in our Regency Park admissions office!

Fantastic Charity Event Held At Regency Gardens in Wayne, NJ!

Written by Marie Barnes, Regency Corporate Marketing Director.

Wayne, NJ – On a summer’s evening, amongst beautiful gardens, glasses clinked, music drifted through the crowd, the smell of fresh, lush gardens permeated the area, with lively conversation and laughter ringing through the group.

This special evening took place on Thursday, June 12th, with over 125 attendees who joined in at the Wine Tasting event held by St. Joe’s Hospital, Wayne Auxiliary. The event was hosted at Regency Gardens Post-Acute, Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 296 Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne.

This fundraiser will benefit St. Joe’s Hospital, Wayne campus, and go toward the pledge the Auxiliary has made to the hospital. The volunteer group is a dedicated committee of people, who work very diligently to make a difference in their community. The Auxiliary works in conjunction with the Foundation Office and Development Director, Susan Spatt of St. Joe’s Hospital, Wayne campus.

Many community members knew each other and it was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect in a relaxed, enjoyable environment, many old friends had an opportunity to reminisce, while new friendships were formed.

Warwick Valley Winery served samplings of wines and liqueurs, explaining the various combinations of flavors. Gourmet Pizza was served made freshly from a large pizza oven set outside on the patio grounds of Regency Gardens. The atmosphere provided beautiful surroundings with waterfalls, mature trees, koi ponds, and beautifully manicured grounds.

Live music serenaded the group, and photographer, Michael Lawrence, from Wayne, donated his services, taking photographs. Hot and cold appetizers were also served, along with soft beverages, for a variety of tastes. Vendors set up tables for their wares, and the attendees enjoyed a little shopping.

The collaboration and event was enjoyed by everyone present, and attendees commented that they would enjoy attending another evening like this next year!

A Tree Grows at Regency Park!

I was leaving beautiful Regency Park towards the evening yesterday, when I happened to notice a beautiful tree on our property. To be sure, I pass this tree all the time, but this time of year it is in full bloom.

The tree is quite unusual, in that there are beautiful leaves sprouting from the bark itself and wrapping around the tree in a circular pattern. So beautiful in fact, that I actually thought it wasn’t real and that we placed it there specifically to ‘dress up the tree.’

However, when I took a closer look, I saw that it is quite real!

So beautiful, colorful, unique and gorgeous…just like Regency Park itself!

I’ve long said that at our Regency Nursing and Post-Acute Rehab Facilities, we have an obsession for the finer details to ensure that everything we do is 100% pristine and geared towards patient satisfaction.

Hey, even our trees caught on!!

Take a look:

Regency Park grounds are quite beautiful, but I now have a favorite tree!

Respecting Traditions

At Regency Nursing Centers, we respect and honor traditions. Our compassionate care today, is no different than it was when we first started several decades ago.

Although we constantly strive to achieve greatness in our ever evolving industry, we continue to embrace those systems and traditions which have held us in good stead over all these years.

Speaking of traditions and not “re-inventing the wheel,” I was mortified when I recently learned that there are possible plans in the works to do away with the famed and beloved horse drawn carriage rides in NYC, which are indelibly etched in my memory as an exciting part of my youth.

Bill de Blasio’s plan to ban horse-and-carriage rides in NYC has hit some setbacks, but the mayor says he remains committed to getting the despondent animals off the street. Yesterday at the New York Auto Show, the anti-carriage organization NYCLASS unveiled the electric, vintage-style car it has long touted as an alternative.

The new projected "Horseless Carriage." Really?!
The new projected “Horseless Carriage.” Really?!

“My distinct honor and challenge has been to design a vehicle that celebrates the nostalgia and romance of the early 1900s, while eliminating a lot of the not-so-great realities of that time,” said Jason Wenig of The Creative Workshop, the firm that manufactured the car.

It’s much bigger than we expected. Wenig compared the car’s dimensions to those of a contemporary full-size SUV, which feels about right. NYCLASS claims eight-passenger capacity, but six might fit more comfortably. Two bench-style seats face each other in the car’s rear, atop large, exposed wheels and a host of vintagey brass accoutrements, chief of which is the goofy manual Chitty Chitty Bang Bang-style horn. But it won’t exactly be flying around Central Park: the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive electric car packs 84 horsepower and tops out at about 30 miles per hour.

Also on hand at the unveiling was Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez, who supports the horse-and-carriage ban. After thanking Mayor Bill de Blasio and Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Vivierto for their leadership, he announced passing the legislature and introducing the cars as a replacement was only a “matter of time.”

“I believe New York City is about being progressive. And being progressive also means to protect our animal rights,” he added. “That’s why I’m standing here and saying having dozens of horses going through accidents in the streets of New York City is unacceptable.”

Sometimes, it really doesn’t pay to reinvent the wheel.

What Is The Definition Of A “Bi-Polar Vortex?”

The weather today is positively horrendous.

Of course at Regency Nursing Centers, our temperature is perfectly regulated and all of our residents are warm and comfortable.

I was driving to work this morning and was listening to the weather forecast, when the oompa loompa (Remember Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) who they recently “activated” to monitor the “storm desk,” called this week’s weather a “bi-polar vortex?!”

"Storm Desk" has "activated" the Oompa Loompas!!
“Storm Desk” has “activated” the Oompa Loompas!!

I usually have a cup of coffee in hand on the way in. It’s a very good thing I didn’t or I’d have spilled it all over myself!

What in the world is a “Bi-polar Vortex?!” Is that like a medical diagnosis? I’ve never heard it before and I work in Healthcare.

To be sure, if you live on the U.S. East Coast, March is the greatest time of year for massively confusing weather. March is when warm air masses start colliding with cold air masses, producing an unpredictable mix of snow, sun, and everything in between. One minute, you’re thinking it’s time to put away the sweaters and make room for more springy clothes. The next, you’re wondering where you left those insulated mittens.

But it gets worse.

In today’s news reel, the big joke making the circuit is the gaffe by a weatherman in Washington who was discussing today’s weather.
If you live in Washington, D.C., you may want to have both mittens and tank tops on hand. Oh, and throw in an umbrella, some sunscreen and a hat. Just bring everything. The National Weather Service issued the following forecast for this evening:

“WE SOMETIMES SAY THE FORECAST HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. I THINK WE CAN TAKE THAT LITERALLY AT THE MOMENT . . . AS THIS FORECAST HAS ALMOST EVERY POSSIBLE WEATHER TYPE/HAZARD . . . IN THE FIRST 36 HOURS. STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS . . . SNOW . . . WIND CHILLS. . . STRONG WINDS . . . UNSEASONABLY WARM TEMPS . . . UNSEASONABLY COLD TEMPS . . . POTENTIAL FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS . . . MINOR COASTAL FLOOD POTENTIAL . . . THERE IS NOT MUCH LEFT.”

I have certain trademark expressions which I repeatedly use in different applications.

In this instance, I will say “you cannot make this stuff up!”
