My Visit To The Venetian Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Amboy, NJ

This afternoon I had the opportunity to visit a patient at the Venetian Care Center in South Amboy.

The Venetian is part of the Windsor Healthcare Communities, located throughout New Jersey.

The following Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers are part of their group:

Ashbrook, Briarwood, Buckingham at Norwood, Canterbury at Cedar Grove, Cornell Hall, Abington, Llanfair House, Merwick, Venetian and Windsor Gardens.

When I pulled up to the facility I took these few pictures outside (and the one photo of the inside common area):

Tzvi Gross Of Regency Nursing Working On Senior Healthcare Legislation

It came to our attention yesterday that our very own Tzvi Gross of Regency Management, is working closely with New Jersey Assemblymen and State Legislators to draft new Healthcare reforms which will directly impact and benefit NJ seniors.

(We were informed by a prominent NJ Assemblyman, as Tzvi tends to be modest and discreet. Sorry Tzvi, your families have a right to know of our many efforts and accomplishments on their behalf)

While it is too early to get into the specifics of the various proposed legislation and Legislators spearheading the effort, we are extremely proud that Tzvi has been hand selected to take part in this collaborative initiative at the State level.

Certainly, in his capacity as an ombudsman and senior advocate who also happens to manage several of the most sought after 5 star nursing and rehab facilities across the State, he is uniquely positioned to help craft healthcare initiatives to benefit those who need it most!

Details to follow in due course.

We Asked, You Answered: “What the Story Behind Your Menorah?”

Our dear friend, Dr. Aaron Feingold made headlines with the White House, when his ‘Liberty Bell Menorah’ (which is housed all year in our Regency Heritage museum).

From the White House Blog:

Last month, the White House called on readers to help us find special menorahs for this year’s White House Hanukkah receptions, asking, “what’s the story behind your menorah?” The announcement stated that we were looking for recommendations for menorahs to use for the candle lighting ceremonies that told a story – a story about family, community, or continuity of Jewish life here in the U.S., in Israel or around the world.

Within one week, we received 54 submissions (3 X chai!) from throughout the country, with stories spanning the centuries and the world. Some of the submissions included: a Sephardic menorah from the 14th century; the oldest American menorah – made of tin; a menorah by a prize-winning architect; a menorah made to commemorate 9/11; a menorah made entirely from reusable, recycled parts; a menorah honoring religious freedom made by Jewish Day School students from Northern California following their trip to Washington to visit the FDR Memorial; an Art Nouveau menorah made in Paris in the 19th century; a menorah made to look like a row of brightly colored doughnuts; a menorah incorporating the Washington, D.C. skyline; a menorah holding cans of food to donate to the homeless; and several menorahs with incredible stories of how they had been buried or hidden during the Holocaust, survived, and passed down through generations of families.

The Liberty Bell Menorah

The Liberty Bell Menorah, by Manfred Anson, was recommended by Aaron Feingold, who has a collection of some 200 menorahs. The Liberty Bell at Independence Hall in Philadelphia is inscribed with the timeless message from Leviticus (25:10), “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof.” This phrase is featured prominently on the menorah and is a strong reminder of the connection between the Hanukkah holiday and the fight for liberty. Each bell holds a candle, and on the rim of each bell is the name, birth date, and year of death of a famous American Jewish patriot who devoted his or her life to fighting for liberty, freedom and the revolutionary cause.

Pepper Cannot Compete With Our Dedicated Staff!

Pepper is a humanoid robot by Aldebaran Robotics and SoftBank Mobile designed with the ability to read emotions. It was introduced in a conference a few years ago in Japan and was made available to the public on February 2015 at a base price of JPY 198,000 ($1,931) at Softbank Mobile stores. Pepper’s emotion comes from the ability to analyze expressions and voice tones.

It’s no secret that Japan is facing severe socio-economic pressures due to its aging, shrinking population. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the field of elder care.

But there is one solution to both the human and financial pressures of an aging globe: robotic caregivers. It’s a concept Japan’s been pushing for a while now—in 2013 and 2014 especially, the Japanese government poured millions into incentivizing eldercare robotics development. Many have looked at Japan’s kawaii and cuddly droids and rolled their eyes, questioning whether or not such technologies could ever really gain traction with the rest of the world. But over the past couple of years, elder care robot research and development has grown more conventional and cheaper, producing products with greater functionality and broader consumer acceptance.

In a Kanagawa Prefecture test, Pepper entertained a room of 30 80- to 90-year-olds for 40 minutes. He led them in light exercises and tested their ability to recognize colors and letters. Women patted his head like a grandchild.

Pepper’s developers hope the robot will be able to take on more complex tasks such as caring for the sick and elderly to help address the labor shortage in a rapidly aging Japan. But since Pepper lacks the dexterity to do household chores and can only move around on flat surfaces, its primary use will be as an indoor communications tool.

Watch an interview with the robot here.

Nobody loves technology more than we do at Regency Nursing Centers. It’s why we use the most advanced technology in healthcare for the betterment and healing of our patients.

Still, our primary asset and the one defining and distinguishing characteristic which sets us apart from all of our would-be competitors, is the compassionate staff – THE PEOPLE who make up the Regency family of caregivers!

Nobody has more compassionate and dedicated personnel than we do and we are extremely proud of it!

No robot can successfully compete with our caregivers.

I should note here that our beloved Regency Founder & President brought this robot (and his increasing impact on the Healthcare sector) to my attention earlier today.

He sent me a photo of Pepper…along with the following message:

“Pepper concept is neat, but no android can compete with our incredible staff, nor do I require robots to care for our patients!”

Yes, we all agree with you, Mr. Gross.
