Good morning.
In linguistics, idioms are usually presumed to be figures of speech contradicting the principle of compositionality.This principle states that the meaning of a whole should be constructed from the meanings of the parts that make up the whole. In other words, one should be in a position to understand the whole if one understands the meanings of each of the parts that makes up the whole. The following example illustrates this point:
Stick a fork in Prince Harry, he’s done.
Understood compositionally, Harry has been cooked to perfection. The much more likely idiomatic reading, however, is non-compositional: Prince Harry is understood to have suffered a setback due to yesterday’s birth of a 3rd heir to the throne in Britain, which has usurped his previous standing and pushed him to the 4th position.
What? You didn’t hear about the birth of a new Royal heir yesterday?! I did and I’ve been hearing about it ever since.
“Isn’t it amazing that Princess Kate had a boy on her first try!”
Um, no, not really, considering the 50/50 chance (you didn’t suppose she’d give birth to a marsupial, right?)
“Everyone will long remember what they were doing when they heard the news.” “So what were you doing Judah?”
Well, I was actually right here at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Hazlet, NJ, giving our beloved resident, Sarah, a reeses peanut butter cup (her favorite) when someone informed me in the hallway.
I bet you in other nursing homes and rehab centers across New Jersey, this will be THE topic for the next few months (and that’s perfectly ok). In Dover NJ, they will discuss this at the Dwelling Place at St. Clare’s Nursing and Rehab Center. In Wayne NJ, it is sure to be a topic at the Atrium Subacute at Wayne, CareOne at Wayne, Lakeview Subacute Center, Oakridge Nursing and Rehab and the Preakness Healthcare Center for sure!
In Somerset, NJ, my colleagues tell me they were already buzzing about it in the parking lot at the Willow Creek Health and Rehab Center.

Nursing and Rehab Centers are celebrating too. Our work and dedication involves a constant celebration of life!
However, at Regency Nursing and Rehab Centers all over New Jersey, including in Wayne NJ, Dover NJ and Somerset NJ, we will continue to celebrate the health and vitality of our many residents, including our many (celebrated) centenarians who are living under our roof!
Compassionate senior care and senior rehab doesn’t stop because an 8 pound royal baby was born in England!
