Regency Sponsors Two Golf Events In One Day! See Photos!

Regency Nursing and Post-Acute Rehabilitation Centers sponsored two amazing golf events yesterday to raise money for our local hospitals!

The first event, which I attended, was for the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. The golf outing took place at the beautiful Metedeconk Private Golf resort in Jackson, NJ.

The second Golf event we participated in, was to benefit the Chilton Hospital located near our beautiful Regency Gardens Nursing and Post-Acute Rehab in Wayne, NJ.

The golf outing took place at the Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne.

I couldn’t make it out to that event, but Mark Benedek and Carmela Petrozza were there to represent Regency!

And now for all of the pictures!!

See below (we managed to all get ourselves into the photos!):

Comedian Tracy Morgan Visits Regency Gardens!

Tracy Morgan dropped by yesterday to say hello (yes, we get many celebrities here)!

He actually noticed the beautiful castle we built on our grounds and popped in to find out where we purchased the material from.

He wants to start doing construction too!

I kid you not!

Oh, you didn’t know that we built a castle on each one of our properties? Sure we did!

Check it out right here.

We took several pictures with Tracy.

Take a look:

Making Life Sweet At Regency!

Tomorrow is a day made for chocolate, marshmallows and nuts. It’s National Rocky Road Day!  In the United States, the most popular way to eat Rocky Road is in ice cream.

Although there are many variations, traditionally, Rocky Road ice cream was composed of chocolate ice cream, nuts, and marshmallows.  Today, there are variations with vanilla ice cream, cholate chips and almonds.

People have been enjoying this delicious combination for many years. There are varying accounts of the origin of this ice cream, as there often are when a popular item invention comes along. Sometime during the late 1920s William Dreyer used inspiration from his partner Joseph Edy’s chocolate candy to make rocky road ice cream. Dryer did something he was probably told a hundred times not to do. He used his wife’s sewing scissors to chop up marshmallows and walnuts and added them to chocolate ice cream. Of course, it tasted good, so he was probably forgiven for using her good sewing shears for anything but fabric!

Another who laid claim to the creation of rocky road ice cream was George Farren. He had simply blended a candy bar into chocolate ice cream creating the creamy dessert.

Soon after, the stock market crashed, and the ice cream was given the name Rocky Road to bring smiles to faces during the Great Depression.

At Regency, we like sweet too!

We make the lives of our patients sweeter  – for them and for their families!

You Too Can Drive In Your Sleep!

One of the lesser known illustrations of our beloved Regency Founder’s creative genius, is the time he partnered with auto manufacturer, Tesla, to offer $1000 in cash rewards.

Some of you may remember this, though I’m sure most of you don’t.

I actually blogged it here.

Sometime after that there was a ton of hype about how Tesla would soon allow drivers to fall asleep at the wheel (literally).

I blogged that as well, right here.

So I wasn’t that surprised when I read an article by Dan Fallon this morning where he mentions this fellow who was just caught on video sleeping while his Tesla was in motion!

Dan writes:

“The dream of the self-driving car is that we can sit back, relax and do anything — sleep, for instance — while our cars take us where we need to go. We’re not there yet (though we’re getting close), and Tesla’s Autopilot is designed to be used with the driver’s supervision, but that didn’t stop this Tesla owner from embracing the future and taking a quick snooze.”

Wanna see the video?

See it embedded below, or click on this link to watch it on YouTube.

It already has approximately 700k views.

I must tell you, at Regency we are so good at Healthcare, we could do it (figuratively) in our sleep too!

Of course, we never would.

That’s precisely why Regency is the place “Where The Caring Comes To Life!” (emphasis on life…)

Rabbi Bazeley of Anshe Emeth Visits Regency Heritage

anshe emeth-1

We were happy to host Rabbi Bazeley this morning at Regency Heritage in Somerset, NJ.

Rabbi Bazeley is the Assistant Rabbi at the Anshe Emeth Temple in New Brunswick.

Many of their congregants have been our patients and residents over the years and we appreciate our long friendship with the Synagogue.

Rabbi Bazeley was extremely impressed with the beauty of our facility and had the opportunity to see some of our activities up close.

Of course, we provided the Rabbi with a complimentary copy of the Guinness World Record book, which highlights our currently held world record for hosting the most centenarians under one roof!

Rabbi Bazeley was appreciative for the visit and so were we.

Thank you Rabbi Bazeley and thank you Anshe Emeth!

We took this photo together on the Rabbi’s way out:

Temple Beth El has been a staple in the community for many, many years and a number of their Congregants have passed through our doors for the best Post-Acute rehabilitation in the area.

In fact, as we were walking through the halls, we bumped into our beloved resident, Edna K. who belongs to Beth-El.

She was so enthused and delighted to see the Rabbi!

We took this photo together.

Meet My Alter Ego

Every year during this time, my usually trimmed beard grows long.

In fact, if you take a look at many Jewish men post-Passover, you’ll probably notice many of them with stubble on their faces and the beginnings of beards. Why the sudden wish to join the bearded men of the world? It’s only a temporary beard grown as a sign of mourning during the period between Passover and the holiday of Shavuot called Sefirat HaOmer, Counting the Omer.

Each year around the office, my colleagues and Regency family, get a good laugh about the sudden change in my appearance and grooming preference.

In fact, at Regency Park, the folks took to calling me “Chewbacca,” who I only later found out  was the legendary Wookiee warrior and Han Solo’s co-pilot aboard the Millennium Falcon, in the Star Wars franchise.

Chewbacca was part of a core group of Rebels who restored freedom to the galaxy.

Not a bad fellow (creature?) from the description, but then I still didn’t know what he/she/it actually looked like.

So I went online to do the research and below is what I found.

I took a current photo of Chewbacca and also had someone take a picture of me this morning at Regency Heritage.

I placed the photos side by side.

You draw your own conclusions.

Do I really resemble this fellow??

Is this my alter ego?

You decide and I promise not to take offense either way!

New York Yankees and Regency Nursing Centers

I just got a call from a rep at CBS and WFAN, NY.

They want to partner with Regency Nursing Centers to have us as a featured sponsor at the upcoming ‘2016 Old Timers Game’ between the Yankees and the Detroit Tigers, on June, 12th!

I have to ask Executive Management whether they are Yankees fans? This will hardly work if they are all for the Mets!

Either way, I was proud to get the call.

Regency is getting noticed across a very broad spectrum and demographic.

Here is the sample ad they sent me for us to consider.

See below.

Very cool!

Pythagorean Theorem Applied To Nursing. Huh??

Did you ever find yourself wondering about esoteric and recherché concepts pertaining to all manners of things having nothing to do with your day to day existence?

I do it all of the time, especially when I run outdoors.

In fact, on 5-8 mile run, I will typically find solutions to all of the problems affecting mankind.

On a 10 mile run, I will typically reach beyond mankind to dabble in galactic problems affecting the entire universe.

This morning I ran 3.5 miles, so I only had time to consider the mathematical construct known as the Pythagorean theorem (otherwise known as Pythagorastheorem).

This is a fundamental relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle. It states that the square of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

pythagorean therum

I thought about the fact that in high school, I’d have preferred to break out in hives, rather than figure out what this Theorem stipulated, much less why it was of any import or consequence to me personally.

What’s that got to do with nursing, you ask?

Seems like a bit of a non sequitur, right?

Right.

It has absolutely nothing to do with nursing.

Here is the point though.

There is nothing abstruse or recondite about nursing and nursing care.

In fact, it’s rather simple. The mandate is to take care of the patient, as you’d wish for your own loved one to be cared for.

This is not a theorem or some other such abstract concept. It isn’t even something I need to think about on my running excursions.

Indeed, it is here that Regency and our nurses excel!

That’s why I am happy to salute our Regency Nurses and Caregivers during “National Nurses and Nursing Home Week!”

In fact, pictured below is the sign we currently have on display on our property frontage at Regency Park!

Thank you all SO much!
