July 13 will be the date for the White House Conference on Aging (WHCOA) national event, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced last week.
“The July event will continue our year-long effort to listen, learn, and share with older adults, their families, caregivers, advocates, community leaders, and experts in the aging field on how to best address the changing landscape of aging in the coming decade,” WHCOA Executive Director Nora Super wrote in a blog post.
The event will be held at the White House, although it is expected that most attendees will participate remotely. Conference officials are encouraging people to watch from their computers or organize watch parties. During the conference, participants will be able to tweet questions to presenters using the #WHCOA hashtag. The four thematic areas of all conference activities have been healthy aging, long-term services and supports, elder justice and retirement security.
The national event follows a listening tour, five regional forums held in February through May and months of the conference accepting online comments. Burwell made the announcement at the conference’s last regonal event today it Boston.
